Think GREEN! Our use of reclaimed lumber is a great way to reuse/recycle beautiful wood from long ago. The possibilities are endless. Our tables and counter tops are stunning and very durable. This wood has been naturally ageing for over 100 years. The color is true to the wood, with no need for stains. Some of the buildings we get wood from are upwards to 200 years old! We look for extra wide boards typically found as wainscoting or floor boards in houses. The term "barn boards" doesn't limit lumber to what has been perceived in the past as sun bleached barn siding. We look for the very best boards for our furniture, and frequently turn down others that aren't fit for quality work. Don't settle for anything less than the best, from the boards, to the way your furniture is constructed. We don't consider our furniture to be "rustic" this is our top of the line lumber and we treat it as such. Reclaimed Fir top farm table
Our reclaimed wood tables are made from hand picked boards, salvaged from 18th & 19th century buildings. We treat this lumber the same way we would any fine hardwood lumber. Our tables are built in the same manner as a formal dining table done in Mahogany or Tiger Maple. Jim spends a great deal of time deciding which boards to use and will often allow the customer to choose from the best of what is on hand. After that, he must assess each board and match boards for each table or counter, cabinet or bed. Every board presents it's own challenge.
The Fir offers a deeper, richer color and plenty of texture while the Pine is often lighter in color, and has a smoother less textured surface. Either way, the colors and feel achieved with the reclaimed wood is far richer in any setting, than the common, milled woods we are used to seeing.
We love to mix in a little bit of figured hardwoods when we can. By adding Tiger Maple bread board ends on a table it gives the table a touch of refinement and visual appeal. (and serves a functional purpose as well) On a large cabinet we may also incorporate Cherry wood, or even some Eastern Red Cedar trees which go great with the old wood. The possibilities are endless it seems.
All of our table bases are made from solid Maple. We NEVER use Pine or any other soft wood as it is not suitable for strength or durability.
Our furniture, no matter what type of wood you choose, is built with these four things in mind. Structural integrity, design integrity, functionality, and beauty to last for generations.
