With the fourth grandchild on the way, Jim and his son Ben got together and designed a set of bunk-beds that not only look better than most, but are stronger and safer!. Made from solid Poplar and Maple, these beds will look right at home in the girls small bedroom.
We went out to the furniture stores to see what a typical bunk-bed looks like. What we found were mostly units that resembled two cribs stacked on top of each other. Functional sure, but...not very stylish, and definitely not built with longevity in mind.
Our ladder is built in Solid Maple, with little hands and feet in mind. The large well spaced, cut-out handles provide a sure grip all the way up and the no-skid treads give stocking feet a sure footing. We will leave the ladder with a clear coat finish to add a little contrast.
This set of beds will be milk-painted. Milk paint is a non-toxic all natural paint that is tough, tough, tough!... With absolutely no VOCs this is a great. "GREEN" finish.
Here they are all set up!
